Overview

If your home gets power from a timber pole in your yard, that pole is yours, and so is the job of keeping it safe. Poles rot at the base, get hollowed out by termites and lean after storms. When they fail, they can bring the line down with them.

We assess, replace and install private power poles across Sydney, or remove them altogether by converting your supply to underground.

Who owns the pole

A private power pole carries power from the network's connection point to your home. Ausgrid is clear that property owners are responsible for everything beyond the connection point, including private poles, powerlines and pole-top fittings. That means inspection, maintenance and replacement are the owner's job, and a failing pole can lead to a defect notice.

Replace or go underground

When a private pole reaches the end of its life you have two options: replace it with a new pole, or remove it and run an underground service instead. Underground costs more up front but removes the pole and overhead line for good. We'll price both so you can choose.

Why it's Level 2 work

Replacing a private pole means disconnecting and reconnecting the supply and re-running the overhead line, all to the Service and Installation Rules of NSW.
